Important
Note: This chapter is for instructional
purposes only and will help you when you are ready
to configure Manage IT! for your campus. For the training
exercises, configuration was already performed for
you specifically (and only) for training purposes.
The following instructions assume fundamental knowledge of Macintosh
or Windows environments and will not be as basic as the previous sections.
This section is applicable to lab administrators and technology experts.
I.
Campus Information
This section is intended for lab administrators or others who will install
and initially set up Manage IT! You should locate your license agreement
and the Manage IT! user’s manual for reference purposes. You will
also need your registration Floppy Key disk.
Lesson:
Configure Campus Information
Fill each field with the appropriate information for your school or campus,
and enter the Purchase Order number from your license agreement. (Enter
multiple purchase order numbers, if applicable.) Select one of the Operations
System (OS) buttons.
Do not leave any of the spaces blank. Leaving blank spaces will prompt
a reminder each time you open Manage IT! and move within different screens.
II.
Networking
This section explains how to set the network path to the Sleeknet folder.
The Sleeknet folder is the shared resource between Incredible Tutor™ and
Manage IT! and will temporarily hold all student assignments and scores.
The Sleeknet folder will reside on a server, but the Manage IT! application
may reside either on a server or on a workstation’s hard drive.
Lesson:
Checking the Path to the Sleeknet Folder (Manage IT!
on a Server)
Click on the Configuration tab, then the Networking sub-tab. Check the
Sleeknet Path. If the Path resembles the following, you will not need
to reset the path to the Sleeknet folder:
[Server Name]:Sleek_6:Sleeknet
Upon installation of Manage IT! on a server, the Sleeknet folder will
automatically be created within the Sleek_8 folder. If the path does
not indicate that the Sleeknet folder has been chosen, you may need to
reset the path.
Lesson:
Setting the Path to the Sleeknet Folder (Manage IT! on
a Server)
Highlight the current path and click once on the Delete button
to clear. Click once on the Browse button and manually locate the Sleeknet
folder on the server. Once the folder has been located through the browser,
click once on the Sleeknet folder to highlight. DO NOT OPEN THE
SLEEKNET FOLDER. Click once on the Select or Select
Directory button within the browser. If the path has not been
returned and you see the Sleeknet folder still listed in the browser,
click once to highlight the Sleeknet folder and click again on the Select
Directory button within the browser.
Lesson:
Checking the Path to the Sleeknet Folder (Manage IT!® on
a workstation’s hard drive)
Click on the Configuration tab and then the Networking sub-tab. If the
Path to the Sleeknet folder resembles the following, you will not need
to reset the path to the Sleeknet folder:
[Server Name]:[Drive Name]:Sleeknet
Upon
installation of Manage IT! on a hard drive, the Sleeknet folder
will automatically be created on the hard drive. You will need
to create a new Sleeknet folder on the server for all the Incredible
Tutor™ workstations to have access to the Sleeknet folder.
Lesson:
Setting the Path to the Sleeknet Folder (Manage IT!
on a workstation’s hard drive)
Highlight the current path and click once on the Delete button
to clear. Click once on the Create button. Select a
location for the Sleeknet folder by using the browser to access the drive
where the Sleeknet folder will reside. Click once on the Select or Select
Directory button within the browser.
A Sleeknet folder should now appear on the server on the drive selected.
Access to this folder will need to be granted for both the Manage IT!
workstation and Incredible Tutor™ workstations. Permissions
needed will include at least “Read and Write,” but may include “Modify
and Delete,” depending upon the protection software being used.
Remember that the Sleeknet folder is only a temporary folder. Only student
scores since the last collection and teacher assignments after the last
distribution will be missing in the folder.
Teacher Assignments may be redistributed to the Sleeknet folder upon
creation of a new folder (if one has been deleted). Student scores and
bookmark position within the current Assignment since the last collection,
however, will not be recoverable.
III.
Collection & Distribution
Lab Administrators may choose to use the automatic collection and distribution
feature if the Manage IT! application is running continuously. This section
gives the steps needed to assign collection and distribution times for
networks only, since this is the most common method of Manage IT! use.
For those without a network who are using Floppy Disk Collection and
Distribution, detailed instructions can be found in the Manage IT! Instruction
Manual.
Lesson: Setting Automatic Collection & Distribution
Click on the Configuration tab, then the Collection & Distribution sub-tab.
Verify that Network has been chosen as the Method. Click
once on the New Time button for the initial time selection.
Select a date & time and click OK.
The box next to “Automatic” should now contain an “X”.
Click again on the New Time button for the second time
selection.Select a date & time and click OK.
To remove a date, simply highlight the date & time and click the Remove button.
If Automatic Collection & Distribution is used, it is recommended
that you logout of the Manage IT! application instead of quitting the
application. Automatic Collection & Distribution will not work if
Manage IT! has been closed, and you will receive reminders that Automatic
Collection & Distribution is scheduled if you attempt to quit the
application.
