Login Screen

Objectives for this exercise:

Part 1: Go to the problem “Order Tenths” in Grade 5 Math.
       

Part 2: Go to the lesson titled “Changing Fractions.”

       
Part 3: Go to the Help Topic on the Login Screen.
         
Part 4: Access the Calculator.
 
Part 5: Tile the windows.
 
Part 6: Navigate to a lesson from the tiled windows.
   
 
Part 1: Go to a specific problem
       
 
1.
Log into “TAKS Grade 05 Math” as Sammy Student using the teacher password.
     
  2. Select “Problem” under the Goto Menu.
       
  3. Under the heading “Read, Write, Compare, and Order Decimals”, select “Order Tenths” by clicking once on the line to highlight (or select any problem if you are not using the TAKS version).
         
    4. Click once on the OK button. You should now see a problem covering “Ordering Tenths.” The student has skipped ahead in the schedule.
         
    5.  Release the mouse button.
         

Part 2: Go to a specific lesson
       
 
1.
Select “Specific Lesson” under the Goto Menu.
 
 
2.

Under the heading “Compare Fractions,” select “Changing Fractions” by clicking once on the line to highlight (or select any problem if you are not using the TAKS version).

 
 
3.
Click once on the OK button. You should now see a lesson covering “Changing Fractions.” The student has accessed the Lesson window for that particular lesson.
 
 
4.
Click once on the Problem button. The student will now see a problem that corresponds to the previous lesson. The next problem will revert to the original bookmarked position in the student’s schedule.

Part 3: Access a Help Topic
     
  1. Select “Help” under the Goto Menu.
     
  2. Select “Login Screen” by clicking once on the line to highlight.
     
  3. Click once on the OK button. The help topic is now available and can be viewed in its entirety by using the white arrows to navigate forward and backward to different pages.
     
  4. Close the window by clicking once on the small box at the top left (Macintosh) or the small “X” box near the top right (Windows) of the Help Window.

Part 4: Access the Calculator
       
1.

Select “Calculator” under the Windows Menu. (If “Calculator” is grayed out, then choose Preferences from the Edit Menu. Click on the Access tab. Scroll to the bottom of the lower window, and click to the left of Enable Calculator to make a blue dot appear. Click on OK. Then select “Calculator” under the Windows Menu.)

Try various functions of the calculator.
 
 
 
 
 
 
3.
Select Logout from the “File” menu.

Part 5: View the Tile feature
 
 
 
 
1.
Log into “TAKS Grade 04 Reading” as Sammy Student using the teacher password. Click on Yes.
       
    2. Click once on the navigation arrow at the top left corner to access questions.
       
    3. Access the Windows Menu and select “Tile Windows”. Your window should now be “split” with two sections that can be accessed.
       
    4. Access the upper section by placing your pointer inside the section and clicking once. Select the correct answer choice in the top section. Notice that the passage will remain intact in the lower section.
       
    5. Access the lower section by placing your pointer inside the section and clicking once.
       
    6. Using the down arrow to the left of the yellow book, scroll down to view additional paragraphs within the passage.
 
 
Part 6: Navigate to a Lesson
       
    1. Access the upper section by placing your pointer inside the section and clicking once.
       
    2. Answer the question incorrectly two times to access the Explanation Box.
       
    3. Click once on the Review Lesson button inside the Explanation Box. Notice that the lower window now shows the lesson that corresponds to the missed problem.
       
    4. In the upper section, click once on the Passage button to replace the Lesson with the passage in the lower window.
       
    5. Click once on the navigation arrow at the top left corner to access the next problem.
The small black arrow to the right of the Main Report button functions the same as selecting Tile Windows from the menu. Click once on the black arrow to tile the screen when viewing a question.
       
    6. Select “Logout” from the File menu.
