Dowlan Smith Celebrates 10 Years with
Sleek Corporation!
This week marks Dowlan Smith’s ten year
anniversary with Sleek Corporation. You may have had the pleasure
of meeting Dowlan if you’ve
called technical support.

In addition to tech support, Dowlan has worked in many capacities
for Sleek Corporation such as writing math algorithms, developing
science and social studies titles, and adding new capabilities
to the reading and writing content. This variety is one of the
aspects of his job that Dowlan credits with keeping him at Sleek
for so long. He also genuinely enjoys coming to work, where he
likes the interaction with his co-workers and boss and feels
a sense of pride for the work he does.
Dowlan grew up in Oklahoma where his dad, a math and science
teacher, was his first programming instructor. Now Dowlan proudly
continues the family tradition of helping children and getting
them excited about their potential by being a part of Sleek Corporation.
Doing tech support gives him the chance to not only give help
directly to the customer, but also to get a feel for the impact
the company has on schools.
When asked what Dowlan likes most about technology, he explained
that he enjoys the creativity of coming up with new ideas and
playing with the technology to see what will result. Before working
at Sleek, Dowlan was an auto mechanic, so he loves taking equipment
apart and finding out how it works. Building a car from scratch
is one of his dreams.
That dream may be on hold awhile since Dowlan and his wife,
an elementary school music teacher, stay pretty busy with their
21-month-old daughter. He can often be found taking walks with
his daughter and savoring this precious time in her life. Dowlan
has also been known to lend a helping hand at his wife’s
school where, after enjoying the school musicals, he frequently
helps take down the risers.
Sleek Corporation is proud to call Dowlan a part of the team where
his friendly voice is often heard helping customers, giving moral
support to a co-worker, or telling the latest story about his
adorable daughter. If you call for tech support and speak with
Dowlan, don’t forget to congratulate him on his ten-year
anniversary. His dedication over the years has contributed to
making Sleek Corporation what it is today.

Leona's Turkey Jambalaya
Submitted by Leona Marshall
Houston ISD
“This is a great way to use
up that leftover turkey!”
Ingredients:
1 cup chopped celery hearts
(including leaves)
1 half of a green pepper (chopped)
1 can okra
1 cup chopped onion
1 pound of spicy sausage chopped (Earl Campbell works really
well!)
1 teaspoon of olive oil
2 cans of stewed tomatoes UN-drained (for the brave use
Rotel)
1 cup of water
3 cups of cooked turkey, broken into bite-sized pieces
1 tablespoon of Cajun seasoning
1/4 teaspoon of gumbo file
Salt to taste
3 cups of instant rice, UNCOOKED
Cook the celery, green pepper, onion and
sausage in the olive oil for about 5 minutes. Add the tomatoes
and okra with their liquids, the water, turkey and the
seasonings. Mix well and bring to a boil. Once water is
boiling, stir in the rice. Reduce to low heat and simmer
for 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Keep it covered! Let it
stand for 5 minutes. Fluff up the rice and chow down! Makes
about 5 large servings.
