Summer afternoon—summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.

Incredible Tutor™ Geek Peek

Did you know that Incredible Tutor™ has an on-screen calculator available for students?

If you run Incredible Tutor™ without Manage IT!®: With your teacher password, enter the program. In the Edit menu, select ‘Preferences’. Under the Access tab in the lower right you will find where to turn on access to the calculator for your students.

If you use Manage IT!®: Go to the Instruction main tab and Preference Editor subtab. Select your title and the preference set name (Test or Tutor mode). Click on the ‘Save As’ button in order to name and save your unique preference. Under the Access lower tab, you can scroll down to find ‘Enable Calculator’ and select this. (A green checkmark will appear.) Don’t forget to assign your new preference to your students’ assignments when you Assign Materials.

Students will be pleased to find that, when they log in to the program, they’ll be able to find a useful calculator under the Windows menu!

Recipe:
Homemade Fresh Lemonade

In celebration of summertime, Lindsey Bridges, a parent of a John B. Connolly sophomore, submitted this recipe.

She told us, “My kids love this because it is head and shoulders above any bottled drink out there! My youngest loves to squeeze the lemons and the oldest likes to do the stirring.”

INGREDIENTS:
17 lemons
4 cups raw brown sugar (This can be found by the ethnic foods in the produce section. Its Spanish name is piloncillo.)
15 cups water

DIRECTIONS:
Scrub the outsides of the lemons well and cut them in half. Squeeze out the juice, keeping the pulp in it (that’s part of what makes this lemonade so good!). Do NOT throw away the empty lemon halves…you’ll need them later.

Put the raw brown sugar in a pot that will hold about a gallon of liquid. Add the water and bring it to a boil. Once the water comes to a boil, add the lemon juice, pulp and the empty lemon halves. Continue boiling and stirring until all the sugar dissolves. Once all the sugar has dissolved, remove from the heat and allow the lemonade to cool. Once cooled, remove the empty lemon halves and transfer your lemonade to a pitcher. Refrigerate and ENJOY!
