Version 10.5 for TAKS Has all
your TEA Math Requirements

Grades 1-11 Math (Texas titles): In May 2005, the Texas Education Agency released the modified math TEKS for grades 6-11 to the public. In October 2005, TEA released the modified math TEKS for grades 1-5. According to the Texas Education Agency timeline, field test items that incorporate the recent TEKS changes could appear on the TAKS math assessments as soon as spring 2007. (There are no current plans to create spring 2007 field test items for the tests in grades 1-5.) All teachers in Texas are encouraged to begin teaching the latest math TEKS in August 2006.

Our math curriculum developers evaluated the math TEKS modifications and made sure these changes were reflected in our elementary, middle, and high school math titles. The 10.5 version of Incredible Tutor™ contains all these changes!

What is your favorite part about what you do at Sleek Corporation?
Creating and organizing the math items is a fun puzzle that I really enjoy.

Putting together Incredible Tutor™ is a real team effort and I like that, too.

What do you like most about how Incredible Tutor™ helps students?

Incredible Tutor™ makes a lot more sense to me than similar products I used as a teacher. The state testing is so stressful, but we have heard so many success stories from teachers and students that utilized Incredible Tutor™ as part of their study. If just a handful of students pass because of their work on Incredible Tutor™ than I am absolutely thrilled.

What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time I am working on my Masters degree in Math. With the spare time left over from that I enjoy being with my fabulous husband. We enjoy camping, biking, cooking, and window shopping.

What is it that you love about math?
What is there not to love?! Personally, I love that there is a right answer, but really the best thing is what math does for your brain. It really trains you to solve all kinds of problems, not just the kind with numbers. In fact, law schools actively seek mathematics majors for their thinking and reasoning skills. That always surprised my students who wanted to become lawyers because they liked to argue!

Do you have any pets?
I have three beautiful kitties. They are named Baby, Newt, and Penny. They each have their own personality, just like people!

When students get stuck on a math problem when working in Incredible Tutor™, help is available! Sometimes all it takes to understand something is having it presented to you a little bit differently. To see examples of the same type of math problem worked out all the way to its solution students should simply click on the “example” button. This preference is on by default in tutorial assignments, and can be enabled for a quiz or test if desired.

To turn on this preference, go to Preferences and then Access. The Enable Example button will be the first option under “Access.” Click on Enable Example and your students will be allowed to view examples of math problems with solutions that will open the door to better understanding. This is a nice treat in a low-pressure quiz situation.
